Choose Ultimate.ai when
Existing Ultimate customers standardizing on Zendesk AI agents – Advanced and preserving established automation work.
Ultimate is no longer an independent roadmap: Zendesk acquired it and now refers to the product as AI agents – Advanced. The practical decision is whether to continue that Zendesk path or introduce an independent automation layer.

Choose RAUM AI when
Zendesk teams seeking an independently managed layer with provider choice and a tool-oriented resolution pipeline.
Zendesk completed the Ultimate acquisition and is consolidating access and user management under AI agents – Advanced.
Intent libraries, conversation designs, integrations, and reporting history can make continuity more valuable than a fresh deployment.
Switching automation systems requires more than copying answers: triggers, escalation rules, actions, audit expectations, and ownership must be mapped.

A dedicated automation platform generally brings its own builder, its own conversation model and its own analytics, which is powerful when you want one place to design flows across channels. A Zendesk-native layer instead assumes the helpdesk stays the system of record and adds reasoning on top of it. Neither is better in the abstract. The question to answer first is whether your team wants to design conversations in a separate tool, or wants tickets to keep behaving exactly as they do today with better answers inside them.
RAUM does not ask you to rebuild your support process as a flowchart. It reads procedures written as prose — reference material it consults, and runbooks whose steps it must follow — plus your brand-voice guidelines and Help Center content. If your team already maintains written process documentation, that documentation is the configuration. If it does not, expect to write it: RAUM's answers are only as good as the process it grounds on, and that is a real prerequisite rather than a detail.
Export an inventory of intents, training phrases, knowledge sources, flows, integrations, and escalation outcomes.
Classify each flow as retire, rebuild as a knowledge answer, rebuild as a deterministic procedure, or keep human-only.
Parallel-test the highest-volume intents and compare escalation accuracy before changing production routing.
No. RAUM reads written procedures rather than requiring flows to be rebuilt in a visual builder. Existing runbooks and Help Center articles are usable as-is.
Yes. You can connect your own APIs and MCP servers so it can look up or change records mid-ticket. Anything that changes state is held for explicit agent approval by default.
Start in simulation mode, which runs the full pipeline and shows the reasoning and the tool calls it would have made without sending anything or executing state-changing actions.
Nothing changes unless you change it. Assign one owner per automated ticket path so two systems never act on the same event, and widen RAUM's scope one ticket class at a time.
No. Zendesk acquired Ultimate and its current documentation calls the offering AI agents – Advanced.
Not without an inventory. Existing flows and training work may have substantial value; compare continuity against the control and operating model you need.
Use the same representative tickets, knowledge, allowed actions, escalation rules, and acceptance criteria in both systems.
