Decision guide

Which approach fits best?

Choose Help Scout AI when

Teams that value Help Scout's shared-inbox and Docs experience and want AI within that platform.

Choose RAUM AI when

Teams already using or selecting Zendesk that need configurable actions, decision logic, and provider control.

Neutral considerations

What to validate before choosing

Helpdesk choice comes first

Help Scout AI runs in Help Scout; RAUM runs with Zendesk. Switching between them can mean a helpdesk migration.

Documented AI modes

Help Scout documents AI Drafts for agent-reviewed replies and AI Answers for customer-facing self-service.

Automation depth

Compare the exact workflows you need. Do not infer that either product supports an action unless its current documentation or a tested integration confirms it.

What the choice actually turns on

Assistive features and autonomous resolution are different purchases

Writing assistance — drafting, rewriting, summarising — reduces the time an agent spends per ticket but keeps a human on every one. Autonomous resolution removes the human from a defined subset entirely. They are frequently sold together and evaluated as one thing, which makes it hard to tell what you are actually paying for. RAUM does both, but they are worth piloting separately: measure the drafting time saved first, then decide which ticket classes are documented well enough that nobody needs to read the reply before it goes out.

Staying on Zendesk is usually the cheaper answer

If the comparison you are running is really between helpdesk platforms, the AI layer is the smaller half of the decision. Migrating a helpdesk means moving ticket history, retraining agents, rebuilding triggers, macros, views and reporting, and re-establishing integrations. RAUM exists so that adding capable AI does not require any of that: it installs into the Zendesk you already run, and the agents keep working in the interface they already know.

Setup and migration

A practical evaluation sequence

  1. 1

Decide whether the helpdesk itself still fits before comparing AI features.

  2. 2

If moving to Zendesk, plan mailbox history, customer records, Docs content, workflows, reporting, roles, channels, and cutover communications.

  3. 3

Rebuild a small, measurable set of high-volume workflows before migrating the long tail.

FAQ

Questions teams ask

Does using RAUM mean changing helpdesk?

No. RAUM is a layer on top of Zendesk, not a replacement for it. Ticket history, triggers, macros and reporting stay exactly where they are.

What can agents do without leaving the ticket?

Generate a grounded first draft, rewrite an existing reply for tone or grammar with undo, translate into 20+ languages, and run custom instructions such as summarising the thread.

Is anything sent to a customer automatically?

Only if you enable autonomous resolution and choose which queues it covers. Otherwise every reply is a draft an agent reviews before sending.

How is ticket data handled?

Content is processed under your own AI provider account, personally identifiable information is masked before processing, and the app does not store ticket content.

Can RAUM be installed in Help Scout?

No. RAUM's current product is designed for Zendesk.

Does evaluating RAUM require leaving Help Scout?

A production adoption does require Zendesk. Treat the helpdesk migration as a separate decision from the AI feature comparison.

When is Help Scout AI the lower-change option?

When the team is satisfied with Help Scout and its documented AI Answers and AI Drafts cover the required workflows.
